Broadway & Theatre District

West 41st to West 54th Streets

Distance: Walking: 10 minutes | Driving: 5 minutes

The Heart of New York Theater

Known for its marquees, long-running musicals, and new productions each season, the Broadway Theatre District is home to 41 Broadway theatres in the blocks around Times Square, making it one of the most famous places in the world to see live theater.

The district’s northern end begins about a block from WestHouse Hotel New York, with Studio 54, the Broadway Theatre, and the theatres of West 52nd Street a few minutes on foot, and the TKTS booth in Times Square about a 10-minute walk. Plan an evening performance, a matinee followed by dinner, or a full weekend built around theater, then walk back to refined rooms and suites and The Terrace after the curtain falls.

Explore the Broadway Theatre District

The Broadway Theatre District stretches from West 41st Street to West 54th Street, mostly between Sixth and Eighth Avenues, and is home to 41 Broadway theatres, each with 500 seats or more. Many sit on the side streets running west from Broadway and Seventh Avenue around Times Square, while the district's northern end reaches almost to the hotel's block.
  • The Northern Theatre District

The theaters closest to WestHouse sit between West 50th and West 54th Streets, including Studio 54, the Broadway Theatre, the Neil Simon Theatre, the August Wilson Theatre, the Gershwin Theatre, the Winter Garden Theatre, and Circle in the Square, all within a few minutes' walk of the hotel.

  • Long-Running Musicals

Several of Broadway's longest-running shows are a short walk away, including Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre on West 51st Street, MJ at the Neil Simon Theatre, and Chicago and The Book of Mormon on West 49th Street. Hamilton, The Lion King, and Aladdin play further south, closer to Times Square.

  • TKTS in Times Square

The TKTS Discount Booth sits under the red steps in Duffy Square, at Broadway and West 47th Street, selling same-day tickets and next-day matinees at up to 50 percent off. The TKTS app shows what is available before you set out.

  • Matinees and Evening Shows

Most Broadway shows perform six days a week, with evening curtains at around 7pm or 8pm and matinees on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. Most are dark on one night, usually Monday.

  • Restaurant Row

West 46th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, known as Restaurant Row, is lined with restaurants serving pre-theater menus timed around evening curtains, a short walk from many Broadway theatres.

  • New York City Center

On West 55th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, New York City Center is WestHouse's closest stage, home to the Encores! musical series, dance seasons including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater each December, and special engagements throughout the year.

Make Broadway Part of Your NYC Stay

Staying a short walk from the Theatre District gives you more flexibility around a night at the theater.

Start the evening on The Terrace, where WestHouse guests enjoy tapas, desserts, beer, wine, and sparkling wine from 5pm to 8pm, then walk to an 8pm curtain without needing a taxi. After the show, the walk back to West 55th Street takes only a few minutes, even when Times Square is at its busiest.

Matinee days work just as well. Breakfast on The Terrace, a morning at Central Park South around 6 minutes away, and a 2pm matinee leave the evening free for dinner nearby. For guests planning a winter trip, NYC Broadway Week offers 2-for-1 tickets to participating shows, with its winter 2027 dates set to be announced by NYC Tourism.
